The GAG has learned that President Biden and his family, including his disgraced son Hunter, are spending their summer vacation for free at a $20 million beachfront mansion in South Carolina.
A source close to the family told The GAG that the president recently asked prominent Democratic donor Maria Allwin, the widow of hedge fund founder James Allwin, if he could stay at her nine-bedroom Kiawah Island estate.
“They stayed here before and they’re not paying,” the source said. “They’ve never paid. They’re just friends.”
The property has a large swimming pool on two acres and is private because it is surrounded by palm trees and other plants.
Reporters were upset that the White House didn't tell them much about Biden's trip to South Carolina, which is expected to last until early next week.
The Associated Press emphasized Wednesday that the White House “did not respond to requests to provide details on Biden’s vacation schedule, activities or when he planned to return to Washington, nor did it provide information on the residence where he was staying.”
The Federal Aviation Administration's website, on the other hand, says that there will be "temporary flight restrictions for VIP movement" over Kiawah until Tuesday at 9:15 p.m.
The Bidens have stayed at Allwin's mansion a lot, even back when Joe Biden was vice president and it was on the market earlier this year.
Maria Allwin has given money to many, mostly Democratic, political campaigns, but her most recent donations were to Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and a PAC that is helping her fight off a primary challenge from Harriet Hageman, who is backed by Donald Trump.
Federal Election Commission records show that in September 2018, Allwin sent a $35,000 check to the Biden Victory Fund and the Democratic National Committee. This was before the 2020 election.
The source said, though, that the Allwins and the Bidens do not do business together. The source also said that the family has no direct ties to Hunter Biden, whose business deals in foreign countries are being looked into by the government. The first son recently gave the IRS about $2 million to avoid being charged with tax fraud.
The source says that Maria Allwin has been friends with Joe Biden and Jill Biden for more than a decade.
Chris Allwin, who is Maria Allwin's son, is in charge of the family business, Aetos Capital. Carbon credits from California are among the things the company owns.
Biden has stayed before at the homes of other wealthy people who helped him out. In November, he and his family spent Thanksgiving at the home of billionaire private equity investor David Rubenstein on Nantucket. This made ethics experts raise their eyebrows.
“Just a friendly reminder, [Biden] will have to pay fair market value for the stay on Nantucket or disclose the gift of free lodging in his annual disclosure in May 2022. I’m not suggesting he wouldn’t, just reminding not to let it slip through the cracks,” Walter Shaub, director of the US Office of Government Ethics under former President Barack Obama, tweeted at the time.
Shaub added regarding that stay, “There’s a disclosure exception for personal hospitality, but that only applies if the head of the Carlyle Group is staying there with the Bidens. I suspect the WH is all over compliance with the rule — and oblivious to the ethical optics.”
The Allwin family didn't want to say anything, and the White House didn't answer The Post's question right away.
Biden has also not said anything about the FBI raid on Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, which is said to have been about the fact that the former president had records that may contain classified information. White House staffers say Biden didn't know about the raid ahead of time. Republicans say this is unfair because the FBI is also looking into the finances of the Biden family.
