Teen's NFT Sales Top $50M

In honor of Pride month, NBC reported that Victor Langlois, a transgender kid, had made close to $50 million selling NFT copies of his artworks.

  • Through the selling of his NFTs, a transgender teen has made almost $50 million.
  • The record-breaking sales of FEWOCiOUS have established Victor Langlois as a key figure in the business.
  • According to him, NFTs have taught him that art is not limited to painting alone.

In June 2021, Victor rose to prominence after selling five sets of physical NFT artworks for a total of $2.16 million through Christie's. "Hello, I'm Victor (FEWOCiOUS)", and This Is My Life centered on his youth and gender transition.

Since then, the 19-year-old artist's sales on NFT platforms have increased. Within twenty-four hours, he sold about $20 million worth of NFTs on Nifty Gateway. He has progressively become a household figure in the sector. According to Fortune, this was the third largest sale on the NFT marketplace.

The artist, also known as FEWOCiOUS, told Fortune about his struggles as a transgender child: "It's been difficult for me to process, to be honest."

After being removed from an abusive home and placed with his grandparents, Langlois asserted that living with them was no better. In an interview with Esquire, he stated, "I believed I would be secure, but they were just as vicious as I had anticipated."

He also told the magazine that his religious upbringing made him fearful of coming out. He also mentioned that his Latina grandma did not understand his decision to study art.

“I think she struggled so much that she just wanted security. To see me wanting to pursue art, she was like: ‘What? Be a lawyer.’ Which I understand. But it hurt when she would say, ‘Your art is ugly and that’s why you can’t do it.”

Now that he has attained success, Langlois has no intention of stopping. The NFT trade has taught him that art is not necessarily still painting, he claims. "The aim is not to relax and do nothing," he remarked. "The dream is to sketch."
