The Raptors’ run as a model NBA franchise has ended abruptly this season.

The drama behind the scenes appears to be worse than previously thought, with Sportsnet reporting on a a heated locker room blowup between star forward Pascal Siakam and coach Nick Nurse.

Siakam reportedly blew up on Nurse after being benched in the fourth quarter of a 116-105 road loss to the Cavaliers on Sunday night.

“Siakam wasn’t happy and — according to multiple sources — let Nurse know about it, loudly and aggressively with words beyond standard cursing. It got personal, lines were crossed and teammates had to intervene,” the Canadian website reported.

There were initial reports that Siakam was being fined $50,000 for exchanging words with Nurse while the team was leaving the floor in Cleveland. The Raptors denied those reports, though now it appears Siakam’s actions were more serious than originally believed.

It has been a trying season for the Raptors, who are playing this season in Tampa during the pandemic and were recently decimated by a COVID-19 outbreak. The team broke a nine-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 135-111 rout of the Nuggets.
