New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson has left the NBA bubble to deal with an urgent family medical matter.

Williamson “intends to rejoin the team in Orlando for the NBA restart at a later date,” the Pelicans said Thursday in a release.

The team expressed sympathy over the 20-year-old’s decision.

“We fully support Zion’s decision to leave the NBA campus to be with his family,” said Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin. “Out of respect for the Williamson family, we will have no further comment at this time.”

The Pelicans are scheduled to play the first game of the NBA’s restart on July 30 against the Jazz.
