People were amazed to see a big waterspout off the coast of Florida
Off the coast of Florida on Tuesday morning, a large waterspout was seen, which left people who saw it in awe, according to news reports and videos shared on social media.
In a video posted by weather.com, a person on the beach could be heard saying, "Look at that dude, that's a big 'un." The scene was near the city of Destin.
In a tweet, the Mobile, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida, offices of the National Weather Service said that storms in the area were causing a large waterspout off the coast. The agency also told boaters to be careful. The tweet also said that the storm near Miramar Beach seemed to be moving along the coast.
In another video that the Weather Service shared, a driver in a car on a Florida highway around 6 a.m. central time records the scene.
In a series of tweets, the National Weather Service called the waterspout "pretty impressive" and explained how it can happen.
The National Weather Service says they are like tornadoes over water and can be divided into fair weather waterspouts and tornadic waterspouts.
The Weather Service says that fair-weather ones are usually less dangerous, and they can happen often off the coast of South Florida from late spring to early fall.
