As the investigation reaches a 'critical stage,' officials are thinking about what charges could be brought against Hunter Biden

Sources say that the federal investigation into the president's son, Hunter Biden, has reached a 'critical stage' and that officials are considering what charges to bring against him.

Fox News and CNN said that 52-year-old Hunter Biden could be charged with tax fraud or, even worse, with illegal foreign lobbying.

David Weiss, the U.S. Attorney for Delaware, is looking into Hunter Biden's finances and business deals in other countries as part of an investigation ordered by former President Donald Trump. This could lead to criminal charges.

Weiss and the Justice Department have reached a point in their investigation where they are looking into the possibility of charging President Biden's son with various tax violations and/or foreign lobbying violations, sources told the media outlets.

They are also considering a charge of making a false statement about Hunter Biden's gun purchase.

The investigation has been undergoing since 2018.

Biden paid the IRS $2 million in unpaid taxes.
Biden could face charges related to tax violations or foreign lobbying violations.

The investigation, which began in 2018, is still going on, so no final choice has been made.

Hunter Biden recently sent the IRS a check for about $2 million to pay back taxes he owed.

His business activities led him to work with Chinese and Russian businesspeople, and a number of his foreign transactions were flagged by banks as "suspicious."

Suspicious Activity Reports do not mean that someone has done something wrong. But a SAR could be part of an investigation into money laundering or taxes.

In a statement made a few weeks after the 2020 presidential election, Hunter Biden said that the government was still looking into his taxes.

“I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors,” Biden said in the December 2020 statement.

Some people who don't like the White House have said that President Joe Biden may have known about or been involved in his son's shady business deals.

Republicans in the House and Senate have said that if they win the midterm elections in November, they will start their own investigation into the president's possible role.
