After a record-setting career, Tom Brady has announced his retirement from the NFL.
Tom Brady said Sunday he plans to return to the NFL to play for his 23rd season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Why it matters: The surprise announcement comes after the 44-year-old Brady retired last month.
Driving the news: "These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now," Brady tweeted.
These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG pic.twitter.com/U0yhRKVKVm

Worth noting: Hours before his Twitter announcement, Brady posted a video of himself with Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to Instagram stories at the English soccer team's home ground in which the Portuguese player asks: "All good? You’re finished, right?"
- Brady's response is inaudible, but he appears to mouth "Probably."
What they're saying: The Buccaneers wrote in a Twitter post, "Unfinished business 😤 #GoBucs."

- The NFL tweeted, "He's back."
The big picture: Brady holds league records for the most career passing attempts, completions, touchdowns and wins as a quarterback.
- After becoming the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL draft, he went on to have more Super Bowl rings than any player in league history — winning six with the Patriots and one with the Bucs in 2021.
- He was named Super Bowl MVP five times and league MVP three times.
