Aaron Rodgers’ eventful offseason continued Tuesday when the Packers quarterback sent Twitter into a tizzy over his T-shirt choice.
During a video call promoting next month’s golf match with Tom Brady, Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson, Rodgers wore a T-shirt that read, “I’m offended,” which had social media sleuths connecting dots to recent comments made by Packers president Mark Murphy.
“Aaron Rodgers shirt really says ‘I’m offended,'” one Twitter user remarked. “this man lowkey loves being so dramatic. Some of you think he’s your GOAT too.”
Another user posed, “Aaron Rodgers wearing an ‘I’m offended shirt’ is definitely because of Mark Murphy isn’t it.”
Over the weekend, Murphy appeared to describe Rodgers as a “complicated fella,” according to reports amid festering drama between the Packers and the reigning MVP.
Ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, reports surfaced that Rodgers wanted out of Green Bay after 16 seasons. The quarterback skipped voluntary OTAs in May and enjoyed some R&R in Hawaii with fiancée Shailene Woodley instead.
Rodgers, who also appeared as a guest host of “Jeopardy!” in April, addressed his “quiet” offseason on Tuesday’s call.
“It’s been one of those quiet offseasons you dream about, where you can kind of just go through your process on your own, quietly, and that’s all you can ask for as an older player in the league, and someone who’s been around for a long time and just enjoys that time to yourself, to just relax, to not be bothered, to not have any obligations or anything going on,” Rodgers said.
“Enjoying my time and spending it where I want to spend it,” he later added.
While the rest of Rodgers’ situation seems filled with uncertainty — Will he be traded? How long will he hold out from the Packers? — The Match IV is set for Big Sky, Montana, on July 6.
On the call, Brady jabbed the 37-year-old quarterback about January’s NFC Championship game, when Packers coach Matt LaFleur opted for a fourth-quarter field goal instead of giving Rodgers the ball and a chance to score against Brady’s Bucs.
“I do think you do have a partner that would probably like to go for it a little more often than he has in the past so Bryson, I’m glad you’re encouraging him to kind of go for it when it’s on the line,” Brady said.
When DeChambeau responded, “I’ll never push anyone to do anything, so he can choose to do whatever he wants to do,” Rodgers replied, “Well, I usually don’t get the option, in my experience.”
