Scott Boras drooling over Mets’ MLB free-agency potential

Even in the absence of the MLB general managers’ meetings this year due to the pandemic, Scott Boras is willing to assess the Mets’ shopping potential.

The super-agent often uses supermarket analogies in regards to the team’s offseason spending. On Monday he was asked by The Post in which aisle of the supermarket the Mets are shopping this year.

“There is a New Apple in NY,” Boras responded in a text message. “Met Delicious … a Cohen Core with a Wall Street flavor!”

Steve Cohen, a hedge-fund billionaire, will hold his initial press conference Tuesday since completing his purchase of the club from Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz. And Cohen’s big wallet — he’s by far MLB’s richest owner, worth an estimated $14 billion, figures to put the Mets in the game for the biggest free agents, a list that includes J.T. Realmuto, George Springer and Trevor Bauer. Sandy Alderson, who has returned to the organization as team president, must first implement a new front office.

Boras’ greatest hits at the GM meetings include the year he said the cautious-spending Mets were shopping in the “freezer section,” but noted there were “a lot of good, long-standing products they can acquire.”

That comment was relayed to the GM Alderson, who shot back: “Freezer burn is something I’m familiar with.”

Alderson was less amused two years later when Boras said the Mets were shopping in the “fruits and nuts aisle.”

Alderson retorted: “Boras shops near the meat section. That is where he gets his bulls–t.”
