The Mets may not be done adding to their roster after all.
They are among the teams in talks with free-agent third baseman Maikel Franco, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed. Franco, 28, hit .278/.321/.457 with eight homers and 38 RBIs last season with the Royals, playing all 60 games in the shortened 2020 season.
The Mets are familiar with Franco as he played parts of six seasons with the Phillies, with whom the right-hander hit at least 22 home runs three times. In 2016, Franco posted career-highs with 25 homers and 88 RBIs.
Though Franco is poor defensively, he could provide the Mets a third-base alternative to J.D. Davis, who took a step back last season after a breakout 2019. Davis, 27, hit .247 with six homers and 19 RBIs in 56 games in 2020 but did have an above-average .371 on-base percentage.
