As the Golden State Killer was sentenced to life in prison, comedian Patton Oswalt paid tribute Friday to his late wife Michelle McNamara, the best-selling author who died while trying to uncover the identity of the serial murderer.

Oswalt posted two shots of McNamara in a Twitter tribute. She was obsessively investigating the 1970s and ’80s crime spree and writing a book about it when she died in her sleep in 2016.

“The insect gets none of my headspace today. I’m thinking of the victims, and the survivors, and the witnesses and crusaders and investigators. And of course Michelle. Go forward in peace, all of you,” he wrote Friday.

McNamara, 46, died from a combination of an undiagnosed heart condition and prescription medication — just two years before authorities collared DeAngelo for the horrific string of murders and rapes.

Former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo, 74, pleaded guilty to 13 murders and other crimes in a Sacramento court in June, and was sentenced Friday to life without the possibility of parole.

McNamara’s book on the cold case, “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark,” was published posthumously and became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller. HBO also aired a docuseries named after the book earlier this year that chronicled McNamara’s quest.

“Michelle was a mother, she was a wife, she was a sister, and a daughter, and that she has also become a superhero for many in terms of her commitment to solving unsolved crimes,” director Liz Barbus told People magazine.

McNamara and Oswalt, 51, shared an 11-year-old daughter, Alice, at the time of her death. He remarried in 2017.
