Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are being criticized for quarantining at their Australian estate instead of being under lockdown in a government-approved hotel.
The Aussie superstars and their two daughters reportedly flew into Sydney via private jet from their home in Tennessee on Monday and immediately retreated to their palatial multimillion-dollar farm dubbed Sutton Forest.
Australian law mandates that citizens returning from overseas must quarantine in a state-approved hotel for 14 days. However the New South Wales government can grant exemptions from staying at a hotel if there are “strong medical, health or compassionate grounds.”
After news of the exemption broke, some Australians took to Twitter to vent their frustration.
“Very disappointed in @NicoleKidman and @KeithUrban not going into quarantine like the rest of the people coming from overseas. The rich and privileged getting away with it again. Besides, we have plenty of talented Australians living here that could help with the film industry,” wrote one user.
Another opined, “This is how quarantine fails when procedures are not being followed. Double standard is not on! And you nailed it – they are here because of money! Money always talk!”
However, some defended the couple noting that they are following guidelines.
“Anyone can apply for the exemption from hotel quarantine if they can provide evidence of being able to self isolate. Try to gain more information before critizing someone,” a Twitter user noted.
Kidman, 53, and Urban, 52, are down under while she films the TV adaption of the novel “Nine Perfect Strangers” by Liane Moriarty, who also wrote “Big Little Lies,” which was turned into an HBO show starring Kidman. “Nine Perfect Strangers” also stars Melissa McCarthy and Luke Evans.
