Pedro Pascal has caused the Golden Globes to change their rules.

The “Game of Thrones” and “Narcos” actor donned a helmet for his starring role on the Disney+ “Star Wars” saga “The Mandalorian,” which premiered in November 2019. Previously, that would render him ineligible to compete in the Best Actor – Television Series Drama category.

But according to Variety, the Hollywood Foreign Press confirmed Wednesday that Pascal would indeed be eligible for a nomination. “Voice-only performances are not eligible in any acting category,” the HFPA said.

Even though Pascal, 45, was not nominated for the 2020 Golden Globes (which aired Jan. 5, hosted by Ricky Gervais), this rule clarification was reportedly prompted based on the oddity of his performance, which obscured his face and only showed it in the final episode of the show’s first season. He just makes the cut, then, since his intergalactic bounty hunter — and Baby Yoda babysitter — barely squeezed in as a performance that is not considered to be voice-only.

So if he had not taken off the helmet in the eighth episode, he wouldn’t be eligible.

The 2021 Golden Globes don’t have an airdate yet. Amy Pohler and Tina Fey have been tapped as co-hosts, marking their fourth return after previously hosting in 2015, 2014 and 2013.

“The Mandalorian” has already been renewed for a Season 2. It will boast a host of new guest stars, including Rosario Dawson, and it will be released on Disney+ in October.
