The youngest brother of iconic guitarist Carlos Santana, Jorge, died Thursday at age 68, Page Six has confirmed. The cause of death is still being determined.

“We take time to celebrate the magnificent spirit of our beloved brother Jorge,” read a post on Carlos’ Facebook page Friday. “He transitioned unto the realm of light that cast no shadow. The eyes of my heart clearly see him right in between our glorious and magnificent mother Josefina and our father Jose.”

Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Jorge was the youngest of three Santana brothers and picked up guitar after Carlos did. While Carlos’ ascendancy to guitar hero began in the hippiefied San Francisco of their teen years and rapidly ramped up with his appearance at Woodstock in 1969, Jorge’s group Malo had to wait until 1972 for their top 20 hit “Suavecito.”

He joined other musicians from the Fania record label — the definitive salsa music label of the era — in the Fania All-Stars, whose recording of their 1973 appearance at New York’s Yankee Stadium was selected for inclusion in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry in 2003.

Jorge continued playing apart from his brother until 1993 when he rejoined Carlos for a live album recorded in Mexico. The following year, he recorded an album with not just Carlos, but the elder Santana’s nephew, Carlos Hernandez.
