Mike Francesa is unamused by CC Sabathia’s stunning weight loss that has been the talk of Yankees fans.
“Everyone getting crazy about Sabathia losing weight, alright Sabathia lost weight — it doesn’t mean he could pitch better,” the WFAN blowhard said on his daily show, lamenting that it doesn’t take much to make sports headlines these days.
In the 55-second clip shared by his Twitter chronicler, @BackAftaThis, Francesa then explained that tall pitchers like the 6-foot-6 Sabathia often struggle after losing so much weight.
“Do you think because he lost weight at this age it now breathes life into a left arm that was done?” Francesa said of the 39-year-old future Hall of Famer, who weighed 300 pounds during his playing days. “Does it make him a pitching prospect? No it doesn’t.”
Sabathia, who is looking stronger than ever, won’t be a pitching prospect regardless because he retired at the end of last season.
It is unknown exactly how much weight Sabathia lost. A photo showing him showing off his new physique went viral late Monday.
“Not Photoshopped,” YES network broadcaster Ryan Ruocco wrote on Twitter. “The big fella has been getting after it during quarantine!”
