May the Force be “Jojo.”
Taika Waititi, the director and screenwriter of 2019’s “Jojo Rabbit,” will direct a new “Star Wars” film, Disney said Monday.
The plan is for the yet untitled flick to be shown in theaters. But with not only the release of films, but also production schedules, upended by the coronavirus pandemic, the studio did not specify a release date or even a year.
Waititi is no wookie of the year. The 2020 Oscar winner for Best Adapted Screenplay previously directed the season finale of the “Star Wars” TV series “The Mandalorian,” and also voiced a droid in the third episode of the popular Disney+ show.
He’ll be joined by screenwriter c, who was Oscar nominated for “1917.”
While nothing is known about the plot, it will likely be along the lines of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Solo,” and be separate from the four-decade Skywalker saga.
