Coming into the night with the No. 14 pick in NFL Draft 2020, the Bucs flip-flopped with the 49ers at No. 13 to draft Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Wirfs will be tasked with protecting Brady, the 42-year-old quarterback who recently stunned the NFL by leaving the Patriots and signing with the Buccaneers. He just got his favorite target back in Rob Gronkowski and having Wirfs, 21, on his offensive line should help give him some more time to get the ball out to all of his weapons in Tampa Bay’s offense.

Wirfs was a consensus top-four offensive tackle in the draft, but there was little consensus on the rankings of those four. The Giants picked the first in Georgia’s Andrew Thomas at No. 4, the Browns got Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr. at No. 10 and the Jets scooped up Lousiville’s Mekhi Becton at No. 11.

The reported concern on Wirfs is whether he might eventually move inside to guard, a less-premium position than tackle.

The full trade, according to ESPN: the 49ers sent picks No. 13 and No. 245 to the Buccaneers for picks No. 14 and No. 117.
