Just as the Buccaneers landed Rob Gronkowski, another tight end reportedly wants out.

O.J. Howard is looking for a fresh start after three years in Tampa Bay, JoeBucsFan.com reported, noting that it was a sentiment held before Gronkowski came out of retirement and worked a trade to reunite with Tom Brady. A source close to Howard has since denied to ProFootballTalk that he wants out.

The Buccaneers might not be willing to make a trade happen so easily, though. Their asking price has been too high for teams at this point, according to The Athletic, and general manager Jason Licht made it sound like Howard wasn’t going anywhere.

“We’re excited about having O.J. Howard play with Rob Gronkowski,” Licht told ESPN on Thursday. “Why wouldn’t you want to have many weapons at that position? We have an excellent tight end group right now.”

Cameron Brate is also a solid target on the Buccaneers’ depth chart at tight end.

The 25-year-old Howard was the Buccaneers’ first-round pick out of Alabama in 2017 but he hasn’t exactly lived up to the high expectations. In three seasons, he has recorded 94 receptions for 1,456 yards and 12 touchdowns, though he has also had Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing him passes.

The Patriots, who have been looking for a tight end since Gronkowski retired after the 2018 season, have been linked to Howard.
