The 2014 Jets are in the news again for all the wrong reasons, and this time Rex Ryan and Geno Smith are going at it.

Appearing on ESPN’s “First Take” Wednesday, Ryan boasted he would have been a huge NFL coaching success with multiple Super Bowl titles if he had Tom Brady at quarterback.

At the same time, the 57-year-old former Jets coach took an unsolicited shot at Smith, his quarterback from 2013-14, when the Jets went 12-20 to cap a stretch of four straight non-winning seasons that ended with Ryan’s ouster.

“[Patriots head coach] Bill Belichick is the greatest of all time,” Ryan said. “Let’s give him Geno Smith, whoever, see how many Super Bowls he would’ve won. He never won in Cleveland [where Belichick was fired in the early 1990s after five seasons].

It didn’t take long for Smith to fire back.

“My momma never liked dude he been a snake… and y’all glorify it…,” Smith tweeted hours later. “Should’ve got fired after (year one).. truth is we won 8 games [in 2013] after ESPN had us winning two and he got his job back… somehow I’m caught up in a feud and I’m the scapegoat.. Same guy that drafted me. #TheBusiness.”

Ryan, who hasn’t coached in the NFL since 2016, was the Jets’ head coach when the organization drafted Smith with the 39th pick in 2013 out of West Virginia. Smith was the team’s starter in 2013 and 2014 before taking a back seat to Ryan Fitzpatrick under new head coach Todd Bowles.

This sudden feud comes on the heels of former Jets running back Chris Johnson (also a member of the 2014 team) saying his biggest regret was signing a three-year, $9 million with Gang Green, as he struggled with the team.

Smith, now 29, had his career turned upside down in August 2015, when he was punched by then-teammate IK Enemkpali over a $600 plane ticket debt.

Fitzpatrick took the reins for the 2015 season, and Smith eventually left for the Giants and Chargers, before serving as the Seahawks’ backup last season.

Ryan, who was fired by the Jets in 2014, is no stranger to ripping NFL players from the studio.

Earlier in the week, Ryan took shots at Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper while appearing on ESPN’s “Get Up!”

Ryan referred to Cooper as a “turd” while also questioning Dallas’ decision to give him a five-year, $100 million contract extension.

At the beginning of the 2019 season, Ryan said Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was “overrated as hell.”
