Tom Brady is ready to see what he can do without the New England Patriots.

In a piece for The Players’ Tribune published on Monday, Brady expressed how grateful he was for his 20 years in New England, but also alluded to wanting to prove that he can be successful without Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft.

Brady, 42, wrote that he wants “to see what more I can do” and “how great I can be.” He also mentions the Buccaneers believe he’s still as capable as he’s ever been.

“They’ve welcomed me as one of their own,” Brady writes of Tampa Bay. “They want to listen to what I have to say. I’m excited to be embraced fully for what I can bring to the Bucs. In turn I’m ready to embrace fully a team that is confident in what I do — and what I bring — and is willing to go on this ride with me.”

ESPN previously reported a strained relationship between Brady, Belichick and Kraft toward the end of the six-time Super Bowl champion’s tenure in New England, which heavily surrounded the Patriots’ unwillingness to sign him long term despite his known intentions to play into his 40’s.

Before becoming a free agent in March, Brady had a phone call with Belichick that reportedly didn’t go over well. No extension came out of it and those close to Brady viewed it “as further proof that the team wanted him only under its rigid terms and the team exploiting the chance to leak that it had an offer for him and that the ball was in Brady’s court,” ESPN reported.

“Deep down I know what I can do. I know what I can bring. Now I want to see it in action,” he wrote in the Players’ Tribune piece.

The four-time Super Bowl MVP announced he would be leaving the Patriots in an Instagram post on March 17 before signing a two-year contract worth $50 million in fully guaranteed money with the Buccaneers days later.
