A tweet that is going around saying that McDonald's is bringing back breakfast all day is not true.
A Twitter user with the handle @bereniceruizzz posted a screenshot of a press release from McDonald's on Thursday. It said, "Let There Be Breakfast: McDonald's Will Serve Breakfast All Day Beginning October 6."
"Make a note of it on your calendars," says the press release.
"McDonald's is once again making breakfast history by starting All Day Breakfast in all of its restaurants on October 6. This will let customers enjoy some of their favorite breakfast foods outside of traditional breakfast hours."
The problem is that the press release was from 2015, so Egg McMuffin fans will have to go to a McDonald's early in the morning to get their favorite snack.
A company representative told CNBC that the press release is old and that the all-day breakfast menu is not coming back.
In October 2015, the fast-food chain started selling a breakfast menu that was available all day. Steve Easterbrook, who was the CEO of the company at the time, was right when he said that the new marketing plan would help increase sales.
McDonald's stopped serving breakfast all day soon after the coronavirus pandemic started in 2020.
The company said it was getting rid of its all-day breakfast menu to "make things easier in our kitchens and for our staff."
Sales went up by 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2015.
But the franchisees who run McDonald's restaurants all over the country didn't like the all-day breakfast idea because they said it slowed down service.
Since breakfast items are usually cheaper than the rest of the menu, the owners said that the breakfast option made them less money.
As of 11 a.m., the price of McDonald's stock had gone up by 0.4%. Friday at noon Eastern time.
