Early on Tuesday, a preview for the next episode of 'The Shop' showed LeBron James saying that if he were Brittney Griner, he might not come back to the U.S. Now, he is taking back what he said on Twitter.
In the clip, James said, "She's been there for over 110 days. Now, how could she think that the United States has her back? I would think, "Do I even want to go back to the United States?"
The full episode will come out on Friday, so James couldn't say more about the statement before he made it Tuesday night. The Lakers player says now that he "wasn't putting down our beautiful country" when he talked about it on the show.
James wrote on Twitter that what he said wasn't a shot at the U.S., but that he felt sorry for Griner.
“I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days,” James tweeted.
My comments on “The Shop” regarding Brittney Griner wasn’t knocking our beautiful country. I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days! Long story short #BringHerHome

Fans have been using the hashtag #BringHerHome to bring attention to Griner's situation, which James used at the end of his tweet.
Since February, Griner has been in Russian prison for having cannabis vape cartridges. She just recently admitted guilt, but the U.S. State Department says she was wrongly accused.
