In need of reinforcements with Luke Voit being the latest bat to hit the injured list, the Yankees called up Florial on Thursday ahead of their doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Florial, the former top-100 prospect, got off to a hot start to his season at Double-A Somerset before being promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he had cooled off. The 23-year-old can play center field, adding needed depth for a team that lost Aaron Hicks (wrist surgery) and has been playing veteran Brett Gardner almost daily since, with Tyler Wade and Clint Frazier also options at the position.

Florial made his MLB debut last season in a one-game cameo. His development has been disrupted by various injuries, but he will join the Yankees on Thursday. How long he stays remains to be seen, with Giancarlo Stanton nearing a return from the IL.

The Yankees also called up RHP Albert Abreu to take the roster spot of Corey Kluber (right shoulder strain), who joined Voit (oblique strain) on the 10-day IL.
