The Indians pitcher was placed in the injured list on Tuesday, sustaining a non-displaced fracture in his right thumb after he ripped off his undershirt following his Sunday start and caught the digit on a chair at his locker.
“He was, I think, probably rather aggressively ripping off his shirt,” manager Terry Francona told media on Tuesday. “He called [athletic trainer] James Quinlan, and James called me. It was pretty swollen yesterday.”
An X-ray revealed the injury, leaving the righty to meet with a hand specialist on Wednesday.
Plesac, 26, is 4-3 through 10 starts on the season with a 4.14 ERA and 1.02 WHIP.
