Brennan, a sixth-round pick by Washington in the 2008 NFL Draft, ranks ninth on the all-time NCAA Division I list with 14,193 passing yards and fourth in touchdown passes with 131.
Colt Brennan, the record-setting quarterback who led Hawaii to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the Sugar Bowl in 2007, has died, according to multiple reports. He was 37 years old.
No cause of death has been revealed, but his father Terry Brennan told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that his son was in his fifth month at a California rehab facility when he was found unconscious. He died Monday at a hospital in Newport, California.
“He was doing so well, the spark was back in his eyes, and he was healthy and doing great, and it happened,” Terry Brennan told the newspaper.
The California native was arrested on DUI charges in Hawaii in 2012 and 2019, and he was busted for second-degree trespassing while intoxicated at a hotel in August of last year.

Brennan, who attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, led Hawaii to the WAC title and a 12-0 regular season in 2007 before the Rainbows lost to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. He also became Hawaii’s first finalist for the Heisman Trophy that season, finishing third behind Florida’s Tim Tebow and Arkansas’ Darren McFadden.
Brennan never appeared in an NFL game due to hip, knee and head injuries – the latter stemming from a serious car accident in 2010. He later had unsuccessful stints in the United Football League, the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League.
