TAMPA — Yankees reliever Justin Wilson exited Monday’s game at George M. Steinbrenner Field due to tightness in his left throwing shoulder, the team said.
After throwing his 20th pitch of the seventh inning against the Phillies, Wilson signaled to a trainer in the dugout, spoke with Aaron Boone and left the mound.
The 33-year-old lefty was pitching in his fourth game of the spring. He had given up a two-run home run to Didi Gregorius earlier in the inning, walked Alec Bohm and then was facing Odubel Herrera when he felt something that led to his exit.
Wilson’s fastball sat between 91-92 mph Monday after registering at 93-95 mph in his last appearance on Friday.
Earlier in camp, the Yankees had already lost their best left-handed reliever, Zack Britton, who recently underwent surgery to remove a bone chip from his elbow. Britton is expected to be out until June.
