Another shot in the arm
Jameson Taillon struggled with his command — walking three — but he tossed 2 ⅔ more shutout innings. He’s now unscored upon — and struck out nine — in 5 ⅔ innings this spring.
Role reversal
While Jay Bruce continues to hit, Derek Dietrich — another lefty-swinger with defensive versatility — continues to struggle. Dietrich started at second base, but went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and is now 1-for-10.
Caught my eye
On the day Austin Wells was assigned to minor league camp, the catcher still made an impression at the plate, with a hard comebacker that Detroit’s Erasmo Ramirez managed to get a glove on.
Saturday’s schedule
Corey Kluber will be on the mound as the Yankees host the Pirates at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa at 1:05 p.m.
