Tom Brady points finger at himself after worst loss of his career

Bruce Arians called it “shocking” to watch the New Orleans Saints’ pasting Sunday night of his Tampa Bay Buccaneers, adding they “kicked our ass in every phase” of a 38-3 victory at Raymond

Bruce Arians called it “shocking” to watch the New Orleans Saints’ pasting Sunday night of his Tampa Bay Buccaneers, adding they “kicked our ass in every phase” of a 38-3 victory at Raymond James Stadium.

Tom Brady was intercepted three times – ending a streak of 200 consecutive attempts without a pick – and he didn’t throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season. The 35-point loss is the worst of his career.

“I certainly have to play better,” Brady said after the Bucs fell to 6-3, relinquishing first place in the NFC South to the Saints (6-2). “Turning the ball over against a good team never helps. We just didn’t play the way we’re capable of playing. Everyone has got to do a lot better and it starts with me.”

The Bucs went three-and-out on each of their first four drives and trailed 31-0 at halftime. One of Brady’s three picks was a clear miscommunication with Antonio Brown, who finished with three receptions for 31 yards in his first game with Tampa after serving an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy.

According to ESPN, the Bucs have averaged just 15.7 points per game in their three primetime games this season, and 33.8 points in their other six contests.

“We need to perform better at every time,” Brady said. “One o’clock, 4 o’clock, 8 o’clock, Monday night, Sunday night. Doesn’t matter. They’re going to schedule the games, and we’re going to go out there and play. I don’t think it’s anything magical that’s happening.

“As players we got to prepare harder, we got to execute better, there’s no excuses for what it is. It’s a poor performance by a team that’s got a lot ahead of it. Hopefully, we can learn from it and come back to work this week with a lot more urgency, execute a lot better and try to go out and beat a good football team.”
