Despite being the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks flamed out of the NBA Playoffs’ second round, losing in five games to the Heat.
Giannis went down with an injury in Game 4 but didn’t play particularly well beforehand, topping 21 points just once in the series after averaging 29.5 points per game in the regular season. The NBA MVP has one more season before he is a free agent, and his injury and early playoff exit have prompted speculation as to which team could bid for the star’s services in 2021.
The Bucks are still considered favorites to retain Antetokounmpo, and will likely try to add a star to pair with him. The New York Times reported that several teams around the league feel that Milwaukee will make a run at Oklahoma City point guard Chris Paul. The Thunder recently fired coach Billy Donovan, and the team could make Paul available.
Antetokounmpo has said he will not request a trade from the Bucks, and adding an established star like Paul would give Milwaukee one more chance to win a title with him still under contract.
If he does leave town, though, he will have his suitors. The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly interested in pursuing him, according to the Ringer. Per the report, the Greek Freak has an “admiration” for Clippers head coach Doc Rivers.
According to Sports Illustrated, the Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks are all expected to be potential suitors as well.
