It’s “ring szn” for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and girlfriend Brittany Matthews.
On Tuesday, the 24-year-old Super Bowl champ proposed to his lady love of eight years, presenting Matthews with a massive emerald-cut engagement ring that could be as large as 10 carats, according to Brilliant Earth‘s SVP of merchandising and retail expansion, Kathryn Money.
“Brittany’s stunning and trendy engagement ring from Patrick appears to feature an estimated 8- to 10-carat emerald-cut diamond, set on a white gold or platinum diamond-adorned double band,” Money told Page Six Style on Wednesday.
Matthews, a certified personal trainer, posted a photo of her gorgeous rock to her Instagram Story on Tuesday — the same day Mahomes received his Super Bowl 2020 ring, which boasts “10.5 carats of gemstones, including 255 diamonds and 36 genuine rubies,” per Kansas City ABC affiliate KMBC News.
Mahomes, the owner of the richest contract in sports history — a 10-year, $503 million contract extension with the Chiefs, to be exact — seemingly spared no expense with Matthews’ striking sparkler.
“Depending on the quality and specific characteristics of the center gemstone, we estimate the cost of the ring to be between $350,000-$800,000,” Money said.
Ajay Anand, founder of Rare Carat, shared a similar estimate. “We’d estimate the retail value of the ring at $500,000,” he told us. “It appears to be an 8-carat radiant diamond, and we’d guess nothing but the best quality for Mahomes’ high school sweetheart.”
As for Matthews, who celebrated her 25th birthday on Monday, she is still savoring every moment of engagement bliss.
“My heart is so full!” Matthews posted to her Instagram Story Tuesday evening. “I love this man so incredibly much and today was so so special! I couldn’t imagine this day being anymore perfect!”
