Dr. Anthony Fauci said it’s “surreal” that his favorite actor Brad Pitt earned an Emmy nod for portraying him on “Saturday Night Live” — but he won’t be joining the star on stage if he wins.
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, laughed when asked about Pitt’s nomination for his 3-minute cameo on “SNL.”
“What a surreal world we’re living in,” Fauci said Thursday on CNN’s “New Day.”
“He’s one of my favorite actors, so I really do hope he wins.”
Fauci told host Alisyn Camerota that he hasn’t spoken to Pitt since his “SNL” gig in April.
But the doctor added, “I would love to meet him because I’ve been such a great admirer of him and his talent.”
Pitt channeled Fauci for “SNL’s” cold open shortly after the infectious disease expert appeared on CNN in early April, saying he’d love for the two-time Oscar winner to portray him.
Camerota asked whether Fauci would want to join Pitt on stage if he wins the Emmy — causing the doc to shift to a more sober tone.

“The only reason I have hesitancy about that is that we’re in the middle of an outbreak — a bad pandemic — and I think that association with kind of show business thing might be misinterpreted that I’m not serious about what I’m doing,” Fauci said.
“So I’d rather focus on my job and really wish him well that he wins.”
Fauci previously said Pitt nailed the impersonation — which involved a silver wig, wire-rimmed glasses and Fauci’s thick, gravelly New York accent.
