Ryan Reynolds says he and Blake Lively are “deeply and unreservedly sorry” for getting married on a slavery-era plantation.

“It’s impossible to reconcile. What we saw at the time was a wedding venue on Pinterest,” he told Fast Company. “What we saw after was a place built upon devastating tragedy.”

The pair wed in 2012 at Boone Hall in South Carolina.

It wasn’t Lively’s only flirtation with Confederate iconography. Her now-defunct lifestyle Web site, Preserve, memorably ran a fashion spread titled “Allure of Antebellum” in 2014.
