Bradley McDougald has been with the Jets for a little more than a day and he’s already trying to recruit big-ticket free agents.

On his way to the Jets facility Monday, the former Seahawks safety who came to Gang Green as part of the Jamal Adams trade, tweeted that he spoke to former Seattle teammate Jadeveon Clowney, and the free-agent defensive end “told me to tell the @nyjets to come get him!! Let’s make it happen.” The 29-year-old McDougald included a photo of their video chat.

While the thought of the three-time Pro Bowler coming off the edge of a Gregg Williams defense is certainly enticing, it would take some contact massaging and willingness from Jets general manager Joe Douglas.

The 27-year-old Clowney is looking for a contract around $21 million per year. The Jets are expected to have around $12 million in cap space once Trumaine Johnson comes off the books, according to Spotrac. With the proper contract structuring, the Jets could squeeze Clowney in. The question is whether Douglas, who stayed away from the high-priced offensive linemen this offseason, be willing to give Clowney that type of money with so many other holes on the roster. Defensive end is one of the NFL’s premium positions.

Clowney is coming off a season with just three sacks for the Seahawks, but had 9.0 and 9.5 the previous two seasons, respectively, with the Houston Texans.
