Amber Heard’s interior designer said that Johnny Depp’s lawyers grilled her about the actress’ alleged affair with Elon Musk and James Franco, a UK court heard Friday.
Laura Divenere appeared via video link at Depp’s libel trial against The Sun, who he’s suing for calling him a “wife-beater” in a 2018 article.
Heard had secretly recorded a phone conversation with Divenere, which was played in London’s High Court.
The interior designer had dialed Heard after Depp’s lawyer sent her a text in June 2019, pressuring her to give a declaration in support of the actor’s $50 million US defamation suit against the “Aquaman” star.
She said in the recorded call that the attorney asked her about James Franco and Elon Musk and whether she knew flowers allegedly sent to Heard at the LA penthouse were from the Tesla CEO.
Depp has accused Heard of affairs with both men during their marriage — allegations that the actress and the alleged lovers have denied.
“I got a text from him at like 3 o’clock in the morning, basically calling me a liar, and literally saying well, then you are just part of Amber’s conspiratorial group – I mean, this guy is the biggest asshole under the sun,” she told Heard of Depp’s lawyer.
The pair discussed the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star’s alleged abuse of Heard, and Divenere said she was “heartbroken” that she hadn’t realized.
“It’s not your fault, you didn’t know – I hid it from everyone,” Heard said. “It’s what people do.”
She told Heard she gave a declaration that “she was literally forced into signing” after Depp’s lawyers bullied her — but it was “the most vanilla thing imaginable.”
Sasha Wass — a lawyer for The Sun — asked Divenere if she felt pressured in her statement to suggest that Heard had been romantically involved with Franco and Musk.
“Yes,” she replied.
She added that Depp’s lawyer suggested she include the line, “I am aware from news articles that Amber was arrested and spent the night in jail for domestically abusing her former wife (Tasya van Ree).”
In the US suit, Depp has accused Heard of defaming him in a Washington Post article about domestic abuse. The case is due to be heard next year.
Depp has denied ever abusing Heard and said that his “sociopathic,” wine-bottle throwing ex-wife was the violent spouse in their marriage.
The pair divorced in 2017 and have been warring in public ever since.
