The Los Angeles Chargers plan to work out free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick later this summer, Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told reporters Wednesday.
Lynn said Kaepernick is “on the workout list” and fits what the team wants to do at quarterback.
Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since the 2016 season, but has said consistently that he still wants to play football. In wake of George Floyd’s death and the nationwide protests around the country, players and fans renewed their calls for teams to give Kaepernick, the first player to take a knee during the national anthem, a job.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this week that he encourages a team to sign Kaepernick.
Kapenerick and the NFL settled the quarterback’s grievance against the league in 2019 after he sued them, accusing the league of blackballing him over his political views.
