Matt Harvey still might get another shot in major league baseball, but any thought the Mets are interested is misguided at this point.
Amid speculation the right-hander could be headed toward a reunion with his former team, an industry source on Monday indicated the Mets aren’t considering Harvey at this point.
Harvey, 31, has explored the possibility of pitching in South Korea, according to recent reports, after spending much of last season with the Angels and going 3-5 with a 7.09 ERA in 12 starts. Harvey finished the season in Triple-A with the Athletics.
The Mets are thin on starting pitching depth after won in March. As it stands, the Mets have Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, Steven Matz, Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha for the rotation, but beyond that there are questions where the team would go if an injury occurred.
Harvey’s major league debut with the Mets came in 2012. He was an All-Star the following year and a key component of the Mets’ NL pennant winning team in 2015, but he never fully rebounded after undergoing surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in ’16. The Mets dealt Harvey to the Reds in 2018 in a trade that netted catcher Devin Mesoraco.
Harvey recently told The Post’s Dan Martin he’s matured since his time with the Mets, which included multiple unexcused absences from the team.
