Matt Harvey gets standing ovation from Mets fans in Citi Field return

The man formerly known as the Dark Knight last pitched at Citi Field on May 3, 2018, in a relief appearance against the Braves.

As he took the mound at Citi Field for the first time in 1,105 days — and the first time ever not wearing a Mets uniform — Matt Harvey was welcomed back with a standing ovation.

The right-hander had an unceremonious ending with the club in 2018, but fans stood and cheered for the Orioles right-hander Wednesday before he began warming up for the bottom of the first inning.

Harvey saluted the crowd in return, stepping off to the back of the mound and tipping his cap. Harvey got another strong ovation as he walked to the plate for his first at-bat in the top of the second inning, with his old warmup song, U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” playing over the PA system.

The man formerly known as the Dark Knight last pitched at Citi Field on May 3, 2018, in a relief appearance against the Braves. The next day, he was designated for assignment.
