After Matt Lauer published what he claimed to be a devastating rebuttal to Ronan Farrow’s bombshell book “Catch and Kill,” a journalist has reported that another of Farrow’s “primary targets” is close to filing a lawsuit against the author.

On Tuesday Lauer, 62, wrote an article on Mediaite alleging that Pulitzer-winning reporter Farrow engaged in “shocking” displays of journalistic negligence in the 2019 book, which included allegations that Lauer had raped a co-worker. (Lauer strenuously denies those claims.)

The disgraced host, who was fired from NBC amid sexual misconduct allegations in November 2017, argued that, among other things, Farrow, 32, failed to confirm stories from his main sources and used misleading language “to manipulate readers into believing things that could easily be false, or were at least unprovable.”

Then, on Thursday, journalist John Zeigler also published a piece on Mediaite claiming that other targets of “Catch and Kill” are ready to fight back against it.

Ziegler, who has interviewed Lauer about the allegations, wrote, “Lauer is not the only primary target of Farrow’s book with whom I have spoken.”

“Another, one whose role in the book was indirectly tied to Lauer’s, told me, in great detail, why they are sure many things Farrow wrote are not just inaccurate, but actually nonsensical, claiming that they are close to filing a lawsuit against the author and the book’s publisher,” he said.

The book focuses on the sexual misconduct of Lauer and Harvey Weinstein, but also argues that media figures including NBC News honchos Noah Oppenheim and Andy Lack protected Weinstein.

Farrow defended himself from Lauer’s attacks on Twitter Tuesday, writing: “All I’ll say on this is that Matt Lauer is just wrong. Catch and Kill was thoroughly reported and fact-checked, including with Matt Lauer himself.”
