“The Man” is going to be a mom.

A teary-eyed Becky Lynch, who is engaged to fellow WWE star Seth Rollins, opened “Monday Night Raw” by announcing she is pregnant and that she had to “go away for a while.” She relinquished her Raw women’s championship to Money in the Bank winner Asuka.

“You are the champion and as happy as you are to be the champion I might be a little bit happier,” Lynch said while addressing Asuka to end the segment. “So you go be a warrior, ’cause I’m going to go be a mother.”

The 33-year-old Lynch, who has become one of WWE’s biggest crossover stars, has only wrestled three times since Jan. 26, her last match being against Shayna Baszler during the WrestleMania 36 tapings in late Match. Pro Wrestling Sheet first reported Monday that Lynch was going to make a major announcement during that show, something WWE later confirmed. Lynch is engaged to fellow WWE star Seth Rollins, 33. This is the couple’s first child together.

“I’m torn between joy and sadness because I’m at a place in my life where things are about to change and I needed to do something about it,” Lynch said.

She won the Raw women’s championship last April at WrestleMania 35 against Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the first women’s match to main event WWE’s biggest show. It was the culmination of a meteoric rise – pushed by the company’s fan base – that started back at SummerSlam in 2018. It was after losing at that pay-per-view that her brash “The Man” persona was born. Lynch, who was recently on an episode of Showtime’s “Billions” was signed by WWE for its NXT brand in 2013 and she became a major catalyst for the company’s women’s evolution.

“I didn’t’ know if I was good enough to be here and I didn’t know if anyone would care about a loudmouth Irish woman who loved puns and toast,” Lynch said. “But somewhere along the line I learned that they did care. They cared so much that they put me on their shoulders and they carried me into history. I’ll never forget that.”

She is stepping away from WWE at a time when the company is in need of its star power as it tries to navigate putting on shows without fans, due to the coronavirus. Last week’s episode of Raw drew a rating of 1.84 million, the lowest non-holiday viewership in the history of the show.

“I have no idea what happens from here, but I do know that you’ve made all my dreams come true,” Lynch tweeted. “I entered the PC [Performance Center] in 2013 not knowing anyone, I’ll leave that same building tonight with my new family. Thank you all so much.”
