Erykah Badu and Jill Scott helped the music industry grieve the deaths of rock legend Little Richard and entertainment mogul Andre Harrell at their “Verzuz” battle on Instagram Live Saturday night.

The neo-soul pioneers turned the battle into an evening of mutual appreciation as they shared stories and sang along to each others’ songs for nearly three hours. Badu’s music brought tears to Scott’s eyes at one point.

“They pitted us against each other … There’s been some kind of stink in the air for a long time that didn’t belong to us,” Scott said. Badu responded: “I ain’t got no enemies. I don’t got no beef … We’re friends.”

Over 700,000 people tuned into the event, including Rihanna, Adele, Christina Aguilera, Stephanie Mills, Charlie Puth, Solange, MC Hammer, Diplo, Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah.

“Thanks for sharing some much needed love tonight,” Michelle Obama commented in between fire and dancing emojis. “Verzuz” co-founder Swizz Beatz added, “Andre Harrell is dancing upstairs in the penthouse as the Queens Rock.”

Ludacris and Nelly will battle next.
