The Redskins added some good bloodlines after NFL Draft 2020 was over.

LSU tight end Thaddeus Moss, the son of Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss, didn’t hear his name called during the virtual event but signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent Saturday night, Washington’s vice president of player personnel Kyle Smith confirmed to reporters.

Thaddeus Moss caught 47 passes for 570 yards and four touchdowns last season, with two of the touchdowns coming in the Tigers’ national championship win over Clemson. But his path to the draft was interrupted by a medical exam at the NFL combine, where he found out he had a broken bone in his right foot and had to undergo surgery.

The injury meant Moss did not get to work out for any teams, which may have kept him from getting drafted but it did not keep the Redskins from scooping him up afterwards.

“Thaddeus was a productive guy,” Smith said. “It was really a no-brainer to sign him.”

There appears to be a good opportunity for Moss to make the team as the Redskins are short on talent at tight end. Their current roster includes Logan Thomas, Richard Rodgers, Jeremy Sprinkle, Hale Hentges, Marcus Baugh and Caleb Wilson at the position.

Moss started his college career at North Carolina State but transferred after one season. Then after sitting out his transfer year, he missed 2018 because of another broken bone in his left foot, which also required surgery.

Moss’ journey to the NFL will be different than his dad’s, as Randy was a first-round pick of the Vikings out of Marshall in 1998.
