The legendary Rolling Stones got some satisfaction with a new chart-topping song, their first No. 1 hit on iTunes.
On Thursday, the band released “Living in a Ghost Town,” with an accompanying video, and the track jumped to the top of the iTunes’ song chart, besting recent efforts by Drake, Travis Scott, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber. It was the band’s first No. 1 hit in 40 years.
Mick Jagger has opined that he thought the tune “would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now.”
The Stones had not released a new tune since “Doom and Gloom” and “One More Shot” in 2012. While perfect for COVID-19 times, “Living in a Ghost Town” was penned last year.
“We cut this track well over a year ago in L.A. for part of a new album, an ongoing thing,” guitarist Keith Richards told Deadline. “And then s–t hit the fan [and] Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now and so here you have it.”
