Could there be trouble in paradise?

Lakers All-Star forward Anthony Davis has put his home in Westlake Village, Calif., on the market for an asking price of $7.995 million, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.

Dealt to the Lakers last summer, the 27-year-old Chicagoan can become an unrestricted free agent after the season if he declines his player option for 2020-21. Back in January, Davis turned down a maximum contract offer from the Lakers worth $146 million over four years, as he would be eligible for a larger contract with the Lakers by first becoming a free agent. The Lakers at the time maintained optimism they would be able to retain Davis, according to USA Today, while the superstar has danced around questions about his future.

“I have no idea about free agency right now,” Davis said in February when asked by the Associated Press about his future. “I’m worried about this season and what I can do to focus on helping the Lakers win this year and then when that time comes, then come do an interview with me then, we’ll figure it out.”

Davis was having a terrific first season with the Lakers before the coronavirus postponed the season, averaging 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.4 blocks and 1.4 steals alongside LeBron James. The Lakers are 49-14, owning the best record in the Western Conference.

Before Davis wound up in Los Angeles, the Knicks were one of the teams on his list as he forced a trade from the Pelicans. It still seems like a long shot he’d leave the Lakers. But as Lloyd Christmas said in “Dumb and Dumber” when given extremely long odds of landing his love interest, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?”
