We movie critics may have loathed “Dolittle,” but Britney Spears doesn’t think it’s “Toxic” at all.
The “If U Seek Amy” singer, 38, gushed about the reviled family film — starring a check-cashing Robert Downey Jr. as a Brit who natters on to cheetahs — in an Instagram post, cementing Spears as one of our top contrarian minds.
Whereas The Post’s Sara Stewart correctly called “Dolittle” “an uneven hash of a movie,” Spears proclaims it “a must see !!!,” adding that “there seems to be a Special Tone throughout the whole movie which I find hard to find these days.” A special tone, indeed.
She went on: “So if you watch this movie and you’re as enamored as I was with his jackets and clothing . . . don’t get lost like I did. just remember he’s a man who can speak to animals and he’s brilliant.” Note: “Dr. Dolittle” is a 100-year-old story that has been adapted for the screen seven times.
Going steady at 15 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, this version is a tomato so rotten that nobody will even panic-buy it.
Still, even if she mystifyingly enjoyed Downey Jr.s’ big-budget episode of “Confessions: Animal Hoarding,” Spears’ new career as Pauline Kael is as scrumptious a coronavirus quarantine development as there ever was. The pop star with discerning taste says at the end of the post that she “can’t even count how many movies I’ve watched in this quarantine so far.” Well, then, we need more movie reviews. Your readers demand it.
Gimme more, Britney!
