Jameis Winston’s trainer is clearly not a fan of the Buccaneers or the media that covered him in Tampa Bay. Otis Leverette went off on Instagram, seemingly taking shots at the two, saying Winston was “crucified daily” and was “surrounded by blood-sucking opportunist[s].”

Winston was not re-signed in free agency by the Buccaneers, who replaced him with legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Winston, the former No. 1 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Florida State, is still without a team.

The 26-year-old is coming off an erratic season in which he threw for 33 touchdown passes and 5,109 yards, but also tossed 30 interceptions.

In the since-deleted rant, Winston’s trainer implied those around the QB lied and used him, that everybody blamed him without looking deeper into the situation, while Winston did his best to improve himself in difficult times. Leverette played five seasons in the NFL in the early 2000s for the Redskins, Chargers and 49ers.

Perhaps some of that vitriol was in response to comments made by Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians.

“For Jameis, for me, it was the regression in the last two ballgames with the interceptions. It was disheartening because he made progress, then he regressed,” Arians said in an interview last week on CBS Sports Radio.

“Get him somewhere as a backup for now” was Arians’ suggestion for Winston.

“Somewhere he can sit and learn the system. Somewhere either with an older guy he can take over next year or compete with a young guy now,” Arians said.
