It is clear the Giants value what new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has to say — as far as evaluating players he worked with at previous stops. Already, two of Graham’s former linebackers in Green Bay have agreed to contract terms.
Now, how about some input from new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and new offensive line coach Marc Colombo?
The Giants need to add talent and options to their offensive line, and they did so Wednesday night, agreeing to terms with Cameron Fleming, a former Cowboys offensive tackle, meaning the opinions of Garrett and Colombo were heeded by general manager Dave Gettleman.
Fleming, 27, not only worked with Garrett and Colombo with the Cowboys the past two years, but he also has experience with head coach Joe Judge for their time together in New England. Fleming was a 2014 fourth-round pick by the Patriots out of Stanford. He has started games at both tackle spots and was the starting right tackle in the Patriots’ Super Bowl LII loss to the Eagles.
At present, the Giants would start (from left to right) Nate Solder, Will Hernandez, Spencer Pulley, Kevin Zeitler and Nick Gates on their offensive line. The Giants want upgrades or at least more competition at center and right tackle. Fleming has never been a full-time starter in his six NFL seasons — 26 starts in 75 games — and he figures to compete for the starting right tackle spot.
Solder at left tackle received a bonus of $3 million because he was on the roster by Wednesday’s start of the league business year.
