Tom Brady’s potential suitors in free agency appear to be quickly deflating, and at least one national analyst believes the three-time NFL MVP will remain in New England.

The Tennessee Titans re-signed quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a four-year extension Sunday, and NBC analyst Chris Simms cited sources saying that the San Francisco 49ers have decided against pursuing the Patriots legend.

“I’ve talked to a number of people throughout the NFL…and here’s the big news to me: The 49ers are out on Tom Brady. That is not going to happen,” Simms said in a video posted to NBCSports.com. “My understanding is it was Tom Brady’s No. 1 choice to go to San Francisco and be the starting quarterback…But they will be standing pat with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.”

Garoppolo, Brady’s former backup in New England, quarterbacked the 49ers to the Super Bowl this season before they lost to Kansas City.

Simms, a former signal-caller with three NFL teams and the son of Giants legend Phil Simms, added that he believes the race for Brady’s services is down to two teams, the Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“I don’t think the New England Patriots are going to be willing to give Tom Brady $30 million-a-year type of money. As we know, Bill Belichick, he drives a hard bargain and he treats it like a business, no matter who it is, even if he’s the GOAT. He’s not gonna just give him free money,” Chris Simms said. “So between Tampa Bay, who I would bet is willing to spend bigger money on Tom Brady and maybe give him $30 million a year, as opposed to New England, who is probably going to offer him something in the $20 million range.

“That’s where it stands as I know it right now: it’s Tampa Bay or New England for Tom Brady.”

Still, Simms doesn’t believe the 42-year-old Brady – who grew up in northern California — will leave the team with which he’s spent his entire 20-year career.

“If I had to pick or guess, I think ultimately he’ll end up back with the New England Patriots for a very favorable contract, like he’s always done, so they can sign more players and make maybe one more run at this thing to where Brady can get seven Super Bowl rings,” Simms said.
