Through a 'romance scam,' a woman from Texas gets men to give her Rolex watches and expensive cars

The feds said Thursday that a Texas woman tricked men into giving her expensive cars and Rolex watches by giving them false hopes of love.

Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island say that Dominique Golden, 31, of Houston, made a jaw-dropping $2.6 million in a scam where people would send money to the vixens they met online.

Golden caught $1.26 million in cash, checks, money orders, and wire transfers. She then bought a 2018 Bentley Bentayga, a 2017 Mercedes E-Class, and three Rolex watches with the money.

The US Attorney for the District of Rhode Island said that when she pleaded guilty to charges on Thursday, she agreed to give up these valuable items as well as a 16-inch gold chain, a 24-inch gold chain, and three guns.

The US Office also said that she had to give up more than $11,000 from her home in Houston and park the Bentley.

Golden and the other people in the scheme built relationships with people who didn't know what was going on through the internet and messaging apps. Once the victims trusted them, they convinced them to send them money.

Prosecutors say she used fake names and businesses to open mail boxes and bank accounts so she could get money from the "romance scam." In 2018, she made money over the course of almost a year before pleading guilty this week to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud.

On December 6, 2022, she will get her sentence.
