After a terminally ill patient passes away, a Georgia nurse adopts a loving dog

A Georgia nurse adopted the patient's cherished dog after the woman passed away, providing one more act of kindness for the terminally sick patient.

According to WSB-TV, Kim Still formed a particular bond with one of her senior patients at Northside Hospital Gwinnett. When the patient passed away, Kim decided she couldn't leave her adorable Chihuahua mix in a shelter.

Still told the news channel, "I could have never predicted the connection that you build with some people when you take care of them.

As soon as the patient was assigned to her, according to Still, they bonded, and she soon learned that the patient was frightened about what would happen to her dog Jax when she passed away.

"She had no children. She had no family in the area. So the dog was essentially all she had," Still continued.

Her relatives flew in after the patient passed away at the hospital, and Jax was given up to a shelter.

She still couldn't bear the idea of the devoted dog being abandoned at an animal shelter, so she made the decision to go there personally.

“I was very worried that he was not going to be given a good chance, and possibly be put down if he didn’t get out of the shelter,” she told WSB-TV.

Still, who already owned a dog, admitted to the television station that she never imagined having two dogs, but she was unable to go with Jax. He has gladly joined her family and is best friends with her other dog since she completed the adoption paperwork.

“I am never going to get rid of him,” she said. “He is so sweet. He is one of the most loving dogs ever.”

She added that Jax is a constant reminder of her special patient and why she decided to become a nurse in the first place — to help people.

“They just totally changed my life,” she said of Jax and her late patient.
