In an interview with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez talked about the 'stunning' new details about the Trump administration's role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Ocasio-Cortez told the host, "It was just amazing to understand and see how deeply and in detail there was a sense of guilt." "What they were doing was wrong, and they knew it."
The congresswoman was a guest on "The Late Show" a few hours after a former White House employee, Cassidy Hutchinson, said that Trump's then-chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and other top Trump officials asked for presidential pardons because of what happened on January 6, 2021.
Hutchinson, an aide to Meadows, told the House select committee looking into the Capitol riot on Tuesday about the new information. The hearing was set up quickly.
In her testimony, Hutchinson also said that former President Donald Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential SUV away from his Secret Service driver on January 6, yelling "I'm the f—ing president!" as he did so. "Take me right now to the Capitol!"
Hutchinson said that Trump lunged at the Secret Service agent with his free hand.
When asked again about the testimony, Ocasio-Cortez said that the claims were shocking.

“At the very end of this hearing you hear that Mark Meadows, the chief of staff to the president himself, asked for a pardon because he knew that he was breaking the law in order to seize power and undermine the democracy of the United States of America,” the Democratic lawmaker said.
“It is stunning, it is absolutely stunning. And that the president himself was willing to choke his own secret service in order to do so,” she said in near disbelief.
